2023 Razzies best bet - why it’s time to honour the other wooden puppet

The sublime craft of Guillermo Del Toro's Pinocchio showed up the qualities of the other production of the same name.

The Professor

Indiewire called it early in September 2022, prompting Disney's Pinocchio to enter the pool as a Razzie contender:

"Pinocchio" is only the second-worst movie featuring Tom Hanks as a puppet master with a thick European accent released in 2022.

Tom Hanks leads the betting odds at $1.80 to add another trophy to the cabinet by winning the Worst Supporting Actor prize. While I would expect Hanks to win, the probability and price isn’t strong enough for a bet.

Instead, look deeper in the markets for an opportunity that isn’t priced low enough. There is predictions confidence that the 43rd Razzie ceremony on March 11 will smack Robert Zemeckis’ version.

43rd Golden Raspberry Awards - Worst Remake, Rip-off or Sequel - Disney's Pinocchio

When the markets opened earlier this year for Worst Film, Blonde was priced down the pecking order at $21. Blonde has since been smashed into the number one betting favourite at odds of $1.90.

Andrew Dominik’s film had enough spotlight and hyper discussion that it should translate into wins across Worst Director and other categories.

Where I expect Blonde not to win is in the category of Worst Remake, Rip-off or Sequel. Like standing next to a better looking sister, the comparison of Guillermo Del Toro's Pinocchio makes the Robert Zemeckis version appear very ugly.

At $2.10, the odds are slightly underestimating the badness of Disney's Pinocchio .

It’s worth a play for a low conviction bet.
